Conservation of Plasmodium falciparum Sm proteins. (A) Amino acid sequence alignment and comparison of Sm motifs 1 and 2 of Plasmodium Sm-B, D1, D2, D3, E, F and G core proteins with their human, yeast and Trypanosoma homologues. An alignment of the conserved Sm motifs 1 and 2 is presented with the consensus shown above ($, hydrophobic residue). Conserved amino acids are outlined by reverse print (red, overall conservation; black, subgroup conservation).
