  1. The percentage of responders was calculated as described in the Methods section. The ELISA was performed using subclass-specific, anti-human IgG1, IgG2, IgG3 or IgG4 and serum samples at a dilution of 1:25. Only serum samples that had total IgG specific for proteins VIR were tested in this assay. The cut-off values were defined as the mean plus 3 standard deviation values obtained from 20 uninfected control sera.
