Parsimony-based haplotype networks of 68 haplotypes from 488-bp of the COI gene sequenced from 294 specimens of A. marajoara s.l. Statistical parsimony network of the COI haplotypes (see Additional file 2) from the 14 Amazonian localities based on a 488-bp fragment and 93% sequence similarity. Dark grey represents A. marajoara lineage 1; light grey, lineage 2; and black indicates A. oryzalimnetes. Each line represents a single mutational event; black dots represent unobserved, possibly extinct, haplotypes. Haplotype numbers are indicated in bold, * denotes the inclusion of known GenBank sequences identical to haplotypes 1, 2, 3, 5, 42, 46, 47, and 50 identified as A. marajoara. Haplotypes 62-67 (light grey) are A. oryzalimnetes from GenBank only; and S represents the corresponding collection sites (see Table 1).
