The true window of selection for three simulated anti-malarials drugs. The probability of parasites emerging from the liver and successfully surviving residual drug levels to cause a patent new infection is a function of (1) their drug resistance level, simulated as increasing levels of IC50 and, (2) the day they emerge after treatment. Three drug combinations are simulated: a artemether–lumefantrine, b artesunate–mefloquine and c DHA-piperaquine. Note the probabilities of surviving treatment (POST) with monotherapy are shown to immediate right of the x-axis.
