PfWLP1 is intracellularly located in gametocytes. a Detection of plasma membrane-bound proteins. Gametocytes were either stripped from the enveloping erythrocyte and parasitophorous vacuole membranes by saponin-treatment prior to fixation or were membrane-permeabilized following fixation. The cells were immunolabelled with antibodies directed against PfWLP1, Pfs230, PfGAP50 or the HA-tag (green); the gametocytes were counterstained with Evans Blue (red).
