The Mosquito City: a pictorial Illustration of the semi-field facilities at Ifakara Health Institute, in Tanzania, where new vector control products are evaluated before they are taken for full-field studies. The eave tube technology was initially tested here, against self-sustaining colonies of the malaria vector, Anopheles arabiensis, in an ecosystem mimicking rural African villages. The model village had houses built to mimic both modern and traditional designs, human volunteer sleepers working at night, cattle, model rice fields, multiple forms of vegetation, as well as insecticide treated bed nets, the primary malaria intervention already widely used in local villages
