Measurements of haemozoin detected by in vivo microscopy. A region of interest (ROI) is centered on the haemozoin particle in a single frame from video collected in vivo (left). Time averaged background intensities were measured from the same ROI for frames before and after the selected frame to be analysed; an example background measurement is shown (middle). Averaged background measurements were used to generate a binary mask to isolate haemozoin signal from the selected frame to be analysed (right). The raw images that appear in this figure were contrast enhanced to allow for easier visualization of subcellular haemozoin particles
