Median-joining network diagram showing genetic lineages of pfmdr1 alleles in Kenya. The multilocus microsatellite haplotype profiles (using − 9.3, − 4.2, − 3.3, 0, 0.16, 0.45, 3.6, and 9.1 kb flanking pfmdr1 gene) were constructed to generate networks. A total of 132 Plasmodium falciparum isolates were analysed and gave a total of 132 unique 8-loci microsatellites haplotypes. For allele sizes and other details please refer to Additional file 4.
