Sample screening and processing. Samples were collected from all patients tested with an RDT, and subsets of positive and negative samples were used for DNA extraction and subsequent analyses. *Almost all samples from Belem were lost due to faulty extraction procedures, and other samples logged in the database were never identified amongst the RDTs received. ^#A number of positive RDTs received in Denmark, were not found in the database (no RDT with corresponding number or information had been logged). DNA extraction was performed before cross-referencing samples with the electronic database because the electronic database was not ready when samples were received, and postponing DNA-extraction was avoided
