  1. Below diagonal is the differentiation index (FST) and above is the gene flow (Nm) between populations. Nm is estimated by (1 − FST)/4*FST. FST values in italic are significant (p < 0.05). Endash (–) means the two populations have infinite gene flow. FST between population of Príncipe (PR) and districts in São Tomé are high and significant. Population differentiation between districts in São Tomé are low and not significant except for Lembá and Caué. Correspondingly, gene flow of the Príncipe population is the most limited (Nm < 1).
