Appearance of marker. Anopheles gambiae adults that were unmarked (left column), marked with 0.1% rhodamine (center) or 0.2% uranine (right) were examined by fluorescence microscopy (upper row) or squashed on filter paper. Due to the low intensity of the uranine marking, the outlines of the adults were overlaid over the fluorescence image. The image of the unmarked adults was greatly overexposed relative to the marked images to make them visible
