Highly related parasites found within households with no travel history. Genotypes of parasites from the index case detected passively at clinic and any household members detected actively in the household during follow-up were compared and scored for relatedness. Highly related barcode groups were identified and distributed based upon whether or not infections were found in travellers. A total of 15 households had infections actively detected, with 7 of these households reporting no travel history and the remaining 8 households reporting recent travel. Highly related parasites were more likely (p = 0.01) to be found within households with no travel history (6/7) compared to households with travel history (1/8).
