The black curve through the white data points (see also Additional file 3: Table S1) is the exponential line of best fit with the equation: parasitaemia equals 57,012 * e(−0.615*Cq-value). The red part of the figure indicates parasitaemia > 2% (Cq-values less than 16.68); the green part of the figure indicates parasitaemia of < 2% (Cq-values greater than 16.68)
