Plasmodium 18S rRNA biomarker correlation between DBS samples and liquid samples. Serial dilutions of P. falciparum cultures containing 4 × 107, 5 × 105, 5 × 104, 5 × 103 and 5 × 102 parasites/mL and 1, 5, 10, 10, and 10 replicates were used to prepare DBS and liquid samples and tested by the standard assay (A, B). The correlation between liquid and DBS samples were > 0.96 (A). Bland–Altman plots displayed biases (DBS-liquid samples) < 0.4 log10 parasites/mL blood (B). Leftover clinical samples were collected from seven infected individuals throughout the course of their treatment to prepare DBS and liquid samples (C).
