Blood group A and B influences parasite rosetting in a strain-dependent manner. Two laboratory strains (FCR3S1.2, PAvarO) and one Ugandan patient isolates (UCM83) were grown in RBCs from seven donors per blood group and rosetting characteristics determined by flow cytometry. Rosetting rate (left panel, percentage of multiplets) and rosette size (right panel, relative SSC-A) was measured without (A-F) and with (G-L) the addition of 10 µg/mL of heparin. Pairwise comparison of BgO and all non-O Bgs performed using unpaired t-test with Holm adjustment of P-values which are indicated with asterisks (* P ≤ 0.05; ** P ≤ 0.01; *** P ≤ 0.001). All box plots display median values (middle line) and the lower and upper quartile values form the box, with whiskers extending to one and a half times the interquartile range
