Growth curves for Plasmodium falciparum in vitro. Cultures of 10¹ to 10⁶ parasitized RBC (pRBC) were initiated with parasites in the late-phase trophozoite phase and propagated using the continuous culture method as described in the Methods section. Experimental data points were fitted with straight-line growth curves extrapolated on the vertical axis to determine initial parasite counts. Each point represents the mean number of pRBC in triplicate cultures.
