The compartmental framework of the epidemiological model. Humans are either susceptible (S), infected (I), recovered (R) or asymptomatic infected (A). Mosquitoes are either susceptible (X), infected but not yet infectious (Y) or infectious (Z). Infectious humans infect susceptible mosquitoes (dark arrow tracks) and infectious mosquitoes infect susceptible or recently recovered humans (light arrow tracks).
