E5 and 3D7 have the same var gene distribution into telomeric repeats and central clusters. var genes that are identical between E5 and 3D7 are coloured in red. var genes only found in E5 are blue. MS that are identical between E5 and 3D7 are coloured in green. MS that are only found in E5 are coloured in orange. The E5 chimeric var gene on chromosome 14 is depicted in grey. Note that for clarity reasons only the var genes are depicted.
