The relationship between the mean number of activatable hypnozoites (\(\lambda )\) and the per-hypnozoite probability of being killed by the radical curative treatment. This is based on a simple model in which the number of activatable hypnozoites follows a Poisson distribution. If a drug exposure results in a probability p of “killing” each hypnozoite independently, then the probability of the binary outcome of whether relapse occurs or not increases as a function of the number of surviving activatable hypnozoites. The proportion of patients with at least one hypnozoite surviving (i.e. relapsing) = 1 – e−λ (1−p)
